§ 6-228. Smoke alarms.

  • (a)

    Every dwelling unit under the jurisdiction of this division shall have approved smoke alarms installed in each sleeping area on each floor level, and at the head of every open stairway.

    (b)

    It shall be the responsibility of the tenant to notify the landlord of smoke alarm malfunctions or dead batteries.

    (c)

    It shall be the landlord's responsibility to effect timely repairs or replacement of smoke alarms when notified by the tenant.

    (d)

    The landlord shall serve written notice upon the tenant of the landlord's responsibility concerning smoke alarms. For the purposes of this section, written notice may consist of a notice conspicuously posted within the dwelling unit.
